The Shangri-La Abu Dhabi, Qaryat al Beri is a true oasis in the desert- a retreat to indulge in the charms of the Arabian Peninsula and soak up the intense rays of the burning sun.
Situated along the Khor Al Maqta waterway, the hotel sits directly opposite the iconic and majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with exquisite views of the shoreline surrounding it. A myriad of palm trees and a Venetian style waterway, with bridges and even gondolas lie just next to the private beach along with the seemingly endless infinity pool and ample sun loungers.
The best time to enjoy the beach for me was definitely early in the morning. After waking up and venturing onto my room’s balcony, the sky was clouded with a thick fog and I had to wait a while for it to clear to reveal a perfect view of the beach and mosque across the waterway- this view was truly one of the highlights of my stay here. I then ventured to Chi, The Spa, which is located across the Venetian style bridges. The spa offers a chance for guests to unwind in the Jacuzzi, steam room and saunas or have one of the many treatments available including massage and skin rejuvenating facials.
You will find wherever you go in the hotel, each staff member that passes you will always greet you with a smile and a friendly ‘Hello’ and are always happy to help you with whatever you need.
Inside the hotel, as you walk past the impressive chandelier, which marks the centre point of the lobby, you have the glamorous French fine dining restaurant Bord Eau as well as a choice of Vietnamese cuisine at Hoi An or if you fancy a fusion of Arabic and Asian cuisine then you have the Sofra bld restaurant. After dining, you can enjoy the world’s finest cigars or flavoured shishas in your own private cabana on the beach.
As for the guest rooms, the luxurious Arabic decor makes you feel like you are in an old palace or castle and the rooms are extremely generously sized, far bigger than most hotels in the city and have large bathrooms with a bathtub and shower, a large balcony with lounge chairs and the most comfortable beds that will have you fast asleep in minutes.
The Shangri-La can be booked via Booking.com or their website and I would recommend spending at least a few days there to really enjoy all of the wonderful facilities and dining options. Staying at the Shagri-La Abu Dhabi will honestly leave you feeling totally relaxed and calm like the gentle waves of the Arabian Sea.
